I created this last night. It’s an abstraction of shapes inspired by bike components. I went out cycling yesterday and afterwards felt inspired to create this. I’ve been inspired by the colours of Andre Butzer’s and Beatriz Milhazes paintings. The multi-media and complexity of Julie Mehretu’s artwork builds on my previous interest in scale and resolution within the image, different levels of detail created with different media. Also the painting style of Albert Oehlen – I like the way the different quantities and quality of painting leaves the viewer to interpret as they wish and gives depth and layers – particularly ‘Selbstportrait mit 50 millienfacher Lictgeschwindigkeit’.
My image is a drawing from memory, with acrylic paint, crayon, felt tip, biro, thick and medium black markers on scrap paper.
